Machining Fast Track Program Off to Great Start

Phase 1 of the Machining Fast Track Program at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College began on July 15, 2002. This 24 week program was instituted to offer unemployed individuals entry-level training in machining technology. The curriculum in this phase of training includes Machine Shop Safety, Lathes, Blueprint Reading, Measuring Tools and Bench Grinders. This first phase will incorporate twenty hours of instruction per week. Phase 2 will continue instruction in Interpersonal Development, Basic Computer Operations, and Machine Technology.

Currently, there are 10 students enrolled with funding provided by the Centralina Workforce Development Board in cooperation with the JobLink Career Centers in both Rowan and Cabarrus Counties and the Salisbury-Rowan Community Service Council. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a Certificate in Basic Machinist Training.

New JobLink Center Opens in Anson County

The Centralina Workforce Development Board held a a grand opening for the Anson County JobLink Career Center in Wadesboro on June 26, 2002.

Board Welcomes
New Staff Member

The Centralina Workforce Development Board is pleased to announce it has hired Stephanie Boger as a new staff member. As the WDB Program Associate, Boger will be responsible for providing staff support to the Executive Director and Operations Manager. She will serve as the primary staff person to the Board's Youth Council and present ideas for the Council to review. Maintaining and updating the Centralina Workforce Development Board website, the monthly E-bulletin, and the training provider certification system will also be part of her role as Program Associate.

Ms. Boger has a background in developing employment for people with disabilities, counseling, and handling grant funded projects. She has a degree in Human Services from Elon University. You may contact her at (704) 348-2725 or at sboger@centralina.org.

Upcoming Events

This year's Labor Day Parade on September 2 will focus on "Labor to the Rescue" to honor of those who came to the rescue on September 11, 2001. In keeping with this theme, the Labor Day Committee today announced it's Second Annual Kids Essay Contest. The winner in each age group will receive a $100 "back to school gift certificate."
